For airsoft, this looks like a nice way to take a woods-gun secondary and convert t to a CQB primary, and saving a little money is rarely a bad thing. A longer inner barrel fed through a suppressor, and you're in business. Of course, the same can be sad about the Magpul FMG9, so it would come down to cost and ergonmics.
In the real world, I think I'd like it better if it did two things:
1: Used a threaded barrel and matching collar to mate the barrel extension solidly to the pistol.
2: Was available for handguns chambered in a "boy gun" caliber such as 10mm, or at least a +p+ .45 ACP rather than 9mm / .40
The primary reason in my mind for the first requirement is that when using a suppressor, gas will escape an unsealed mounting point. Escaping gas equals noise, and every little bit helps. Also, escaping gas means powder residue, and that leads to potential fouling and stoppages. Hot gas escaping into the interior of the casing and being trapped inside the casing leads to heat buildup, which temporarily changes the crystalline structure of the barrel, which leads to increasing differences between cold and warm bore shots and can also be uncomfortable to hold after sustained firing. Also, depending on how the internal cavity is shaped, if waste gas is allowed to vent in a non-uniform manner, it could impact recoil performance of the unit.
My comment on point 2 is that the additional control offered by the stock and foregrip overcomes most of the discomfort issues with hotter cartridges such as the 10mm. I firmly believe in the adage that anything worth shooting once is worth shooting a couple of times, but I woud much rather be able to take the shot knowing that the guy on the other end is likely to stay down from a single round rather than being concerned that he'll eat three rounds center-mass and then get back up. I am underwhelmed with the terminal performance of the 9mm round. The chart data on the 10mm, on the other hand, is fairly impressive.
