rail system WE ak74un?

Postby VikingR » Sun Dec 01, 2013 4:59 pm

I need a way to put a light and red dot and for grip on my WE gbb ak74un. Finding a rail system for ak74u isn't too hard for AEGs but I doubt they will work for a gbb because of moving parts under the hand guard. Anyone know of one that is compatible? I spent a lot of time online today and recently trying to figure this out. Thanks a lot in advanced

Would the standard side mounted AK rail, and a over the top mount work on a gbb AK (I know nothing about AK's, but cant imagine why it wouldn't work if the RS AK go that route)

Something like this: http://www.sturmgewehr.com/bhinton/AK/AK_ScopeRailB.jpg plus this: https://4b1e874935ea5d25a97e-f099844d0e ... xkv04s.jpg

I know Blowback Armory sells a 'custom' WE AK47un with a Midwest Kink rail - so I would assume that you have real-steel options that work with little/no modification much like a lot of M4 furniture choices for the WE M4 lines.

http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=410

I would love to own this setup myself - but I've got a lot of work to do on my WE M4 still. Damn thing never sees the light of day - but looks smexy propped up in the corner of my bedroom with a barrel-mount M203 and crappy Red-dot.

As far as cheaper airsoft rails - I don't know what will fit for certain, but most AEG Aks I've seen/handled still have room for the gas tube and whutnots in the handguard, so I can't imagine having too much trouble fitting one unless the dimensions are just that far off in other areas. (My M203, for example, needed a touch of dremel to accommodate the wider barrel of the WE, compared to the TM-spec AEG outter barrel.)

I'm curious to know what's moving under the handguard on the WE? The real ones dont move in that area do they? And the WE action should all be in the bolt area?

I suppose I'm not really helping as much as adding more questions, huh

Poke Renegade and see if he knows a specific brand Rail with 'lots of room' inside, perhaps?

Thanks for your input! The gun is equipped with a side rail and I could easily utilize it for an optic. But, that doesn't answer the need for a light and fore grip. I also really prefer a forward mounted optic referred to as a scout mount. If there is nothing out there I may cave and utilize the side rail. I am really wondering if anyone has seen a rail system or even a "ultimak" (a top rail only).
Why is this guy obsessed with a light? I use this tiny little rifle indoors A LOT. Its dark in there

Hey thanks for that link. I'm gonna check it out right now. Real steel is an option but expensive. A handguard system I am notsure tthat will fit that costs more than the gbb.. is a gamble. Under the front upper handguard on both real steel ak's and my gbb rifle is the operating rod of the bolt carrier. I imagine on the gbb its for looks and authentic appearance.

Well... You could screw a piece of RAS into the bottom hand guard and attach a fore gip there. And then buy this: Image

That would be the cheap option. The midwest is $100+ dollars.

Thanks alien I have thought of that too and if I cannot find a rail, that's how its gunna be. The problem is that's not an optimum location for a light. Its better than not having one! Really I want this gbb replica to have the exact same set up as my real steel rifle. I should just got an M4 and not had these problems! Haha

Yes, Cheap AEG compatible rails exist - do you have experience installing one on a WE 74u? That's the real question.

The only reason I threw out the Midwest setup is because I know it fits the WE for sure.

I cannot figure out how to remove the factory hand guards... I have researched it for quite a while, but nothing. There is a tube inside the upper handguard that passed thru the forward trunion... I don't think they come off.. bummer

I am very familiar with tear down on a AK. This is very different.

Pop open the top receiver, then that little tab will slide in and you can take the upper hand guard off.

No dice. Not even with a screw driver to wedge it off. The tab moves with the top cover (after field striped of course) bit there is a tube all the way thru the top hand guard that goes right into the trunion under the rear sight. I saw a take down of a real steel 74u and I saw what youre talking about. I cannot figure it out. I think its not meant to come off which is bull

This is a quote from another website:

"the front end does not take down like a real AK AT ALL ... Front sight assembly,Gas block and fore-barrel extension are cast as 1 piece and must be removed to take off the handguards. I expect that any replacing handguard would need substantial modification to fit."

So you have to unscrew the front sight, then the upper hand guard will slide off. scroll on this page for details:
