PolarStar Fusion Engine

Discussion of GBB (gas blowback) replicas.

PolarStar Fusion Engine

Postby Regular Guy » Sat Mar 19, 2011 12:40 am

Back in Aug. 2010 PolarStar introduced the high pressure air (HPA) powered gearbox.

Looks like PolarStar are ready to make the final release of the HPA gearbox this year after reading a post at Arnies airsoft web site.

So, are you ready to switch your batteries and start carrying CO2 or HPA tanks?

As for me, I like the idea but the CO2 or HPA tanks are not ideal to my budget. I will stick to re-charging my batteries for now. You can utilize a battery (NiMh or Lipo) that can last you almost a lifetime with proper use.

Your thoughts?

I like it because it replaces the Version 2 gearbox.

It's a really neat idea, but that kind of stuff is why I stopped playing paintball. It's easier to change a battery than to fidget with tanks. Tanks are a pain to change in game, and lugging around extra's, while not heavy, takes up a good chunk of space. The hoses also get hung up on every little thing right when you need to make that one great shot (murphy's law). Batteries are much simpler in my opinion

From the looks of the unit, it looks as if it can drop into any AEG that has a cylinder, since that what the entire set looks like - maybe a drop-in unit that fits across the board..
After all, they had a SAW weapon with it in the above video..

Might be fun to have one for an RPK..hmmm....

Get me one that runs off an integral CO2 cartridge, like a screw in 12g CO2 cartridge in the buttstock that will last through several mags and I might be interested.

I always love when these topics come up and people start trying to come up with excuses as to why CO2 sucks. I've been running Co2 for almost 4 years with no complaints. whether it be from my Asahi m60 or my old JAC m16.

>The hose complaint always shows its face. If you have run a correctly set up CO2/HPA rig then it will NEVER get snagged. I roll with 2 tanks in my ruck, with my reg and a coil hose that sits tight against my body right below my armpit.

>Changing tanks takes to long? come on, the time it takes for someone to take apart their AEG enough to get to the battery and finally replace said battery along with the part(s) you took off originally I will be right behind you. Once I break the seal a solid spin and the tank is off and a new one is going on.

>Carrying extra tanks is heavy. 5lbs isn't heavy considering all the rest of the crap people carry around with them. Plus 1 tank will normally last all day. Unless you like to spray unneeded ammo down range.

>Now for the price of a refill. These guns do not use anywhere near the amount of CO2 as paintball guns so as I said earlier 1 tank will last almost all day. I can get my tanks filled for $1 each from a paintball store. If that deal is not around for others, some do tank exchanges at welding shops and fill their own. Which also drops the price considerably.

Until someone actually carries a CO2 rig I'd stop with the excuses.

On the topic of these rigs, I've been following them on CA.net and they look promising, along with DGs drop in kits. I hope CO2 makes a come back!

Madbull already has a Co2 powered gearbox, its only semi auto, but it doesnt seem much different from what is shown above.

In my opinion, this is just another thing to do for the "cool factor." If it greatly improved the performance of any AEG, and you could just drop this in, then I would love to fork out the dough for one. To me it is just the same old tale...

"Why is there a relpica of the Vulcan Minigun? When a spring pistol can get you out just as easily?"

"Why is there a $450 HPA Gearbox? When we already have a regular gearbox that has been around for years?"

The "cool factor" is really what its all about. (To me anyways.)
