Is the new WE M14GBB TOO powerful?

Postby Msixty » Sat Dec 11, 2010 8:02 pm

(I'm sorry if this is the wrong location for this post, but the description of this section is "Discussion of GBB (gas blowback) replicas.")

I purchased a WE M14 GBB from Evike recently (Amazing company by the way, absolute respect to them and their operation.) and although I will not receive it for a few more days I have been doing research on it and I'm a little worried it will exceed the FPS limitations on full-auto capable replicas. When I purchased it I was not too concerned about this and as I have been waiting for this rifle to hit the shelves for three years (not necessarily from WE) I don't care if I have to modify it to use it, but the question is still presented, will I have a problem if the stock replica is shooting a little over 400FPS? and if so how can i fix the problem without ordering an FPS reducer online? (I want to use it on the 19th but it won't be delivered till the 15th)

Unfortunately It has not arrived in the mail yet, I am going off of extensive research online, and I have yet to see a chronograph test in a review without at least one or two shots that broke 400FPS or vastly exceeded it.

(note: I will give a very detailed and extensive review once i have run it through it's paces)

GBB rifles don't have a very consistent FPS like AEGs do, because of their design. I would look into the environmental factors such as temperature during the FPS tests that you've seen online. Temperature is one of the main factors of FPS in GBB guns.

that's what i was hoping for, i have no doubt that after the first few shots it will settle below 400, what i was worried about is if i climb out of a warm car with fresh mags and shoot at a chronograph table before a game then it might be a little over.

(EDIT: Does anyone know if throwing a hand warmer in your mag pouch helps keep the FPS up in cold weather?)

I've heard them shooting just under 400 in 60 degree weather so you should be fine.

On a side note, the WE G36c can dump a whole mag in 30 degree weather if you use bursts.

I thought about RA-Tech Negative Air Pressure System (NPAS) but can't find one for WE M14 available in the US. Good luck!

Just Fill the mag a little less than you would normally when the weather is a little high.

Green gas/propane takes up more room when it's hotter outside, if he fills the mag a little less, it will shoot about the same as if he filled it fully in the cold.

The WE M14 is pretty wretched on automatic anyway. Even in hot weather, the recoil is shoddy and sluggish, and the gun barely gets through the full mag... and you only have twenty rounds in the first place. Honestly, I'd chop the selector and make it a badass DMR.

standard mags are 20, you have to modify them to hold 30.

that thing puts heads down on full-auto, definitely meant for semi-auto, but when you need it bursts of full-auto are good to have (You just have to be gentle and not hold down the trigger like some video-game trained kid)

I suppose, but the gun feels like it's strangling itself if you use it on auto.
