PETITION -- HOUSE
CHIEF SPONSOR:
Representative Leary of Worcester

To the Honorable Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in General Court assembled.

The undersigned legislators and/or citizens respectfully petition for the passage of the accompanying bill or resolve.

PETITIONERS: LEGISLATOR/CITIZEN

DISTRICT/FULL MAILING ADDRESS

James B. Leary

14th Worcester District

REFILE OF PREVIOUS MATTER: BILL #: OF YEAR:

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts

———————

IN THE YEAR TWO THOUSAND FIVE

An Act BANNING THE SALE OR POSSESSION OF AUTOMATIC BB GUNS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Section 1. Section 12 B of chapter 269 of the general laws, as appearing in the 2002 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following paragraph:—
No person shall sell or possess an air rifle or so-called BB gun that is designed, manufactured or altered to provide fully automatic firing or discharge or which is designed or altered to fire more than 10 rounds or pellets per trigger pull. Whoever violates this section shall be punished by a fine of not more than $1000, and the air rifle or BB gun shall be confiscated. Upon a conviction of a violation of this section the air rifle or BB gun or other weapon shall, by the written authority of the court, be forwarded to the colonel of the state police, who may dispose of said article in the same manner as prescribed in section 10.

Now, as far as I know, it is not law yet. It is merely a bill under consideration. Do not be an alarmist. Just be aware.

Mapquest:

Total Est. Time: 46 hours, 23 minutes

Total Est. Distance: 2998.61 miles

That's far enough away for comfort.

That's a silly law though. I would like to see them site the reasons for this bill. I can't really think of anything logical at the moment.

Laws can travel across the nation quite a bit faster than that. ;)

But, I agree. There dont really seem to be any actual reasons for this bill.

This bill is not geared twards our airsoft style bb guns, although this law covers our guns and if was implemented would out law them, I dont think they even though about airsoft when they wrote it. its 10 rounds per trigger pull, ptws have three shot burst! Anyway bet this law will either get shot down or changed so not to outlaw airsoft.

I bet you're wrong Pat. There is about a .01% of an "anti-gun" law not passing in Massachusetts. As for having/needing a reason... repeat after me:

"Guns are the problem. They are bad. They cause crime, not people."

What can we do to try to "shot" it down? Or is there nothing... Must we just sit here and watch?
