Sorry mcnair, you're wrong.

Deleting old threads would be tiresome and would remove a ton of content from the forums.

Locking each thread would be just as tiresome, and if someone had any substantial, relevant information regarding the topic, we'd have to unlock it each time to allow the post in.

As it stands, we have a rule that disallows necroposting because it's annoying.

3. DO NOT NECROPOST. Necroposting is when you bring a thread which has been inactive for an extended period of time (2+ weeks) back to the top of the forum because of a reply. If you don't have anything EXTREMELY valuable to add to a thread which has been inactive for awhile DO NOT POST IN IT. Exceptions to this would be if you're replying to a "MEGATHREAD" or any other thread which was meant to be posted in periodically (Your Mom 2.0, Digital Art Megathread, ect.) most of these threads will be found in Off-Topic.

As an amendment to the necroposting rule, I'd like it very much if folks would stop pointing out the necro'd threads. It's much easier to delete one post than it is to go through and kill the subsequent 7-10 posts calling said necroposter a noob and/or having this conversation ad nauseum.

If you see a necropost, just ignore it. I sit on these boards for 40+ hours a week, I know which threads are old. When a thread resurfaces by someone not paying attention to the date, the offending post will "mysteriously" vanish when I catch it... and that's just me. There's another 9 mods here on AP that will do the same thing.
