Basic Life Saving Certification

Postby Eyes On » Fri Oct 20, 2006 4:02 pm

Would anyone be interested in getting BLS Certified?

I have been talking to the people at Northwest Training Center here in Vancouver. They offer special rates to groups for a four hour CPR certification.

There are also other courses available including Washington State EMT training (60 hours, no group rate which I am aware of), Basic First Aid, and CNA. Certifications are valid in both Washington and Oregon.

The reason I'm bringing this up is that I'd like to see more people with medical training at our games. We're generally playing out in the middle of nowhere, away from emergency medical services.

For clarification, is there a distinction between Basic Life Support training and First Aid and CPR training such as the Red Cross offers?

BLS is a little more involved than CPR, but is not First Aid. First Aid certification involves BLS training as a prerequisite.

BLS/CPR = Stabilization
First Aid = Stabilization and initial treatment.

What the Red Cross offers as far as CPR certification is an adequate first step, but it is covered in BLS as well.

Depending on scheduling and cost, I'd go for this. The same applies to the 60-hour course, although I'm anticipating that it's probably pretty pricey.

I'm CPR/First Aid trained - not that I'm ever at games - But it's required for Daycare employment in Oregon.

I'm not working in a Daycare anymore, but the skills are worth having so I still go once a year to the classes.

They're free to me because my parents pay for it - They still have to go since they work/live in a daycare :P
With all the pretty flowers and twigs in your ghillie.. perhaps you should take up gardening?

+1, rightnow I've got AED Essentials, Child AED, Bloodborne Pathogens Training, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. But I'm needing to re-cert soon. Do you think we could/ would do some/ most of these?

We could just bring Kevin's wife to all the games. She is an EMT

I know Kevin would love that
