We had a few more actors but they no showed. Our scenario was to have one more actor in it.

See, if you guys asked more questions, you would have known the more about the "OPSEC".

When words like infiltrate into a HVAC room in a commercial building....that no one really even knows about other than the hand drawn map...would mean...the guys there felt they were totally safe. The detainee that had drawn the map was off the street and the intel was less than 24 hours old.

Only one team had a guy that asked that question. Unfortunately for his team, he was a cameraman asked while we were in the HVAC room. He thought it odd they didnt ask whether or not these guys were expecting company.....So did I....every time.

Also...How often in low light would you have some guy just sitting in a big a$$ room all alone? Come on. Im not into throwing retarded curveballs. Calling a mission index in a room without a roof in the middle of nowhere also wasnt reasonable.

The mission provided was a tape to tape. In and Out. That is what makes the CQC events different from the typical scenerio combat. You have to think, react, and deal with stress. There isnt always a guy behind every door. I have yet to hear about the guy that sleeps above a doorway with a knife just waiting for someone to come through....even though there is no reason to expect visitors.

CQC events are set in more realistic terms. The LE scenerio and MOUT were situations I came across in some research. Hillbilly, Dantes, and I discussed the options and then fleshed them out. We used some theatrics to provide more emersion for the players. We wanted more actors, just didnt have them to spare.

The ATF mission was the most Hollywood of all, but fun. We did require more actors for every scenerio, many that had agreed to but did not show up. Hence the reason Im so appreciative of the actors that did.

We are a work in progress.

Otherwise, what is the point of actually having to extract him, if there is no threat? That would be the main reason I was covering rear the whole damn time, making sure no one came out that door to try to stop us. Actually Bill, it was part of the briefing that got me thinking that. You said there were reports of insurgents in the area, but hell, we only came accross our two HVT's and the prisoner, not even any guards outside the door. I know you probably had actor limitations and such, but just for future, as I am sure people will be banging at the doors to act after seeing CQC4

Heh heh, but you still watched the back and every team was paranoid about coming into contact with other insurgents.

Mind games. ;)

I was kinda wondering where that "security detail" went. I guess he liquidated them and they were replaced by a good gun.
Bill, I guess I wasn't too clear on what the room we were in downstairs was. I thought that was outside or something, my bad. I was also not clear with the term HVAC, but from the accronym, and the room we entered through, I am guessing it means heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. I still would have expected them to be somewhat on guard, simply because they DID have a prisoner, and I can't remember if it had been publicized or not that they were gonna kill him on the 4th, but they knew the implications of what they were planning, and should have figured that some sneaky a$$ American team would find a way to to get to them, cause that is what we do. I guess all I am saying is that I personally think it would have added to the scenario if there may have been a few terrorists bunked up in beds in a room, or playing cards, so that if any noise is made on the entry team's part, the scenario becomes a lot harder, as now the entry team would have to fight through a shitload of guys and then have to get the hostage out somehow. It wouild have also given team leaders a challenge of "do I enter this room or leave it alone so I don't screw with the primary objective", and then, at the end, a terrorist could have gone back to check on the torture, figured out what happened, and come downstairs with his buddies to stop the team

That did happen. You guys didnt make enough noise. There was a class three a$$ kicking taking place.

We had scheduled at least one walker, but a main charactor didnt show so we had to move it around a little. It did damage the overall problem solving, but we didnt have too much of a choice. I see where you are coming from, but it was out of our control.

And to sum it all up: Mind games. Staff wins.

Indeed. We originally wanted 2 or 3 roaming guards, for that very reason. If you don't take them down immediately, they run and alert everyone that you are there. But one of our teams actually DID make too much noise, they were attacked in the hallway.

gotcha, I just found that when we were doing the ATF scenario, and all of a sudden that little prick (no offence meant to the actor, just the character) just HAD to be told to check the door, and a team of 11 was sitting 3ft away from the door about to kick it in and have fun, that was intense. BTW, was that just random, or did an admin have something to do with it, or was it because he heard something outside?

If the actor was prompted. It meant you alerted them. There was enough noise that made it viable.

In turn, it made you guys sweat a little more and then do your thing!

Bring on November!! I think I can speak for our entire team in saying that we are really upset for having to miss out on this comp. Esspecially after reading everything. We were planning for cqc4 since cqc3 only to have it slip away at the end :(. I can't wait to see all the media from this! Hopefully you'll see the AK's at the next event. You guys rock..keep it up!

Bill, Admins, Actors and Strikeforce; Excellent job, I appreciate all the hard work that went into getting this thing put together. The scenerios were definatly as submersive as you had hoped, at least for me. In the MOUT scenerio, when we were moving through the picth black HVAC room, throwing chem lights out, all I could think was, " This is bleeding Sweet".
I had a great time and learned a lot from my first CQC. I know I can speak for the rest of the team when I say, we have all the inspiration in the world to train like hell for CQC5 and I cant wait.

Thank you to everyone who took part in this

First off,

Thanks to Strike Zone for the venue and the hospitality.

This was my first time even in the building of a CQC tournament, it was nice to see how it was run.

It was fun to see how all the players reacted to a completely upsidedown up situation.

For those that weren't there:

The ATF Mission was an Arms Deal. (Taken almost directly from the movie "Lord of War")

It was originally supposed to 8 people, got cut to 4 saturday, stayed 4 on Sunday to be fair to the teams.

When you walked into the room, you saw a big stage in the middle:

Image

COVERED IN GUNS!

Depending on how you approached and how long it took you to enter, we reacted accordingly:

Silent Approach/Flashbang/Quick Entry: Good for you, you win! (No one was able to do this 100% effectively.)

Silent Approach/No Flashbang/Quick Entry: You walked into the room, Klaus (Baron) is aiming an automatic rifle at you, Karl (Myself) and Ivan (Silent) Don't know what the shazaam! (No one did this either.)

Noisey Approach/Quick Entry: You walked into the room, Klaus is aiming an automatic rifle at you, Karl is aiming a pistol at Ivan's head, Ivan is aiming a pistol at Karl's head and at the door, Ivan's Bodyguard (Nocte) is aiming at anyone but Ivan. (This was probably the most common scenerio.)

Noisey Approach/Slow Entry: WAR! You walk into the room, Karl and Ivan have had enough time to consider joining forces against the ATF. You walk into a firefight.

If I would hear you guys coming, or if Ivan would see light from under the door. I would send Klaus into the hallway to investigate. POLIZEI! POLIZEI! was the starting bell.

For those concerned about wasting assets in rear guard, remember this: This is a 3-Dimensional form of combat. Had you not devoted some concern to security based on the limited information you had going in, you'd be opening yourself up to getting wiped out.

It is better to be safe than sorry. In Mission 1 we provided a forward and rear security screen in anticipation of someone walking into our exfil route. This was vital because we did not control all entrances and rooms along the path for a period long enough to be confident that we were actually "secure". We even banged the start point for that reason before we entered with the wounded hostage.

In Mission 2 we left a full-time rear-guard at a casualty collection point. We then swept every room leading up to the main room. The X'd out rooms made me nervous, and we provided security on them just to make sure it wasn't a staging area.

Mission 3, Security was less of a consideration since the threat was contained and imaginary friendlies controlled the rest of the structure. Still, the stack approached with a security mindset... front and back.

You are not wrong for providing security, even though it ended up not being needed. Had you known you didn't need it, you'd have known too much about the mission. Don't apply harsh hindsight to something you were doing RIGHT. Were I an evaluator, and saw you NOT applying rational 3-D security, I would have taken some points if it was habitual.
