I would have said no for one of my events. We're all adults, yes we don't mind a little pain but as adults we also understand words like "liability" and "insurance claims." Using a bolt action requires discipline, you have to pull the bolt back while maintaining your sight picture - it's challenging. Not everyone has the patience for it, so you end up limiting your hot guns significantly. Cranking away with a semi auto M14 requires less skill and less dedication, therefore if we allow 1 person to field a 550 fps M14, all the kids will be wanting to do it. You have to think about the big picture when it comes to things like this, not just yourself.

I mention something cause I'm sending a few guys down there to check the field out (non of us have ever played at). We too are new and have only been playing now for a year. But rules are made for a reason and for being new just go with the flow before asking something like your M16 fps. I would be ok t a certain point but if the fps changes I'd like to have more then a 2 day notice so we can work on our guns to bring the fps up. We do take this seriously. It sounds like you haven't been hit in the hand, knuckle, finger, Addams apple, nose, ear, in the mouth AND lost a tooth. I have and it flippin hurts. So for a new guy just sit back watch other players and try to fit in. Most of us are not being mean. Ya there are a few guys here and there but you figure out who they are and just let their comments go over your shoulder. I just don't want my guys going to a fix game and then it be modified to help someone else out. Now AP rules so you know I believe are AEGs 420 (most games have it at 400 depending on game)fps, DMR 450 fps bolt action 550 fps. They take 3 to 5 shots thru the chrono and get an average fps. I your a couple fps over they will let it slide to a point but may restrict you as how close your shots have to be (mostly for AEGs only) You over on the fps on a DMR or Bolt Action most games are VERY strict about the FPS. My bolt one time was 7 over (557 fps) and they told me the gun was to hot. So I used my AEG that was 370.....

As a field owner I do take this very serious. Your gun is way too hot. I can fudge a little bit on the FPS rule, about 10 or 15 over 400, but you are way over this. You may not mind getting shot by your gun but others will get very upset when they lose a tooth because of it. We have lots of new players at our field and I don't want them to be pushed away because someone cannot abide by the rules. The rules are made to protect the players.

Hey look, YZ is gonna interject!

This place is antagonistic at best, elitist at worst. Chuck may be new to this forum, new to organized games, but he's not exactly new to airsoft. Chuck is a WIZARD tech. He puts the fairies back in the gearbox. His M14 is a beast, and beautiful to boot. It's shoots way hotter than I will allow at my games, but does that mean he shouldn't ask a simple question? When he asked me if he could use it at my games, I simply said no, and he said ok no problem. He's not trying to circumvent anything, he's asking questions that should be easily answered without any poop flinging from the monkey bin. He's new to the organized scene. Does that mean he shouldn't ask questions about safety and FPS limits? No. Does it make him a jerk for asking, or does it make you a jerk for ranting about his question and throwing personal insults? Take yourselves off the pedestal.

It's unfortunate that AP is such a negative place. These forums certainly do NOT promote the growth of airsoft. How many newcomers have been immediately turned off because they didn't read all the stickies, they misspelled a word or used poor grammar? This place HURTS the sport. You all need to grow up and take off your internet fightin' helmets.

Well said Wisenhiemer, I don't entirely agree with what you said but I respect that you came out and said it. I agree that you shouldn't just turn people away, but you also shouldn't just ignore ignorance. Inform them they are breaking rules and expect them to man up about it. I'm not perfect, when I responded I didn't link to the stickies, I shouldn't expect a new person to know where everything is and what all of the rules are.

That's the first thing. The second is that while I didn't direct him to the right place, he didn't come with an attitude to learn. It's very hard to point something out to a person who won't listen. Since then he's come around and will listen, he now knows there are rules on this forum, and appears to be following them. Bravo!

The third is this, please stop raging about the FPS he asked if he could use. He's new to this forum and learning fast, let him know that the guns FPS is to high for games posted on this forum. The fact is it's Matt's choice about if it's good or not, if you don't like it let him know and petition Matt. Don't rant on about it! I agree with most of you guys, but go about it the right way.

My rant ends,
Airsoftee

PS. Please clean this topic again Variable.
Who's there? Oh, just me.

But you should know, I never travel alone…

I sent 3 guys down to give our team a rough view of the field. I have to tell ya that they really liked the set up. Sounds like when it warms up (hopefully soon) we will be bringing our team over to play. They told me that it would be better if there where more players and use more of the field. But for the number of players and size of field it was good. Nice cover and love the forts. From the sounds of it.... It is getting better.

Great field and environment, minus the paint.

Took "Lola" into her first game, made some clean shots. Had a great time there today, and will definitely return for future events.

Add some metal grating the second level of the castle. The plywood in this weather is dangerously slippery in lieu with the paint residue. Add some large gravel to the dirt path leading down from the speedball fields. My suggestion, do a sweep of the field occasionally. I found that people tend to leave bio ammo bags and debris behind.

We could use a vending machine that dispenses ammo on the fly.
A bonfire spit would be cool for meat fests after the game.
A popcorn maker would be nice for morale too.

I kid.

On an added note. NWPPA needs to change to NWPAU: Northwest Paintball/Airsoft Union. Time to cross-pollinate.

I think the final head count was around 21, much better than the October game and hopefully a sign that this monthly event is catching on. I saw ZERO issues on the field and think everyone had a great time. Hopefully as the weather gets better, we will see attendance go up.

As the player count increases it will be important to be more organized. I would suggest posting a simple schedule .. not just "Be here early for Chrono and explanation of games"
Gates Open
Registration and Chrono
Safety Briefing
Game Start

Put together note cards for your Safety Briefing, so you don't forget key points. Very important especially a with new players to the sport.

I had a great time ... better than I thought I would ... keep up the good work, it will become easier with practice!

I'm sorry you feel that way. Don't take it personally. I think it's good to have a self-policing community with people who are concerned about safety. It's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it. For the most part, as you know, Airsoft is underground and unregulated. It's up to us to set and communicate our own rules. While not all people do it with tact, at least they do it.
