In early 2009 the Mexican drug cartels increased their campaign of violence in Mexico. Drug Related crime is at an all time high. The Mexican governments attempts to deal with the drug cartels has been severally hampered by the massive corruption in the Mexican police and military.
The violence was not contained by the border. Drug related murders and kidnappings increased dramatically in the southwest United States that boarder Mexico. In late October 2009 seven public officials involved in high profile drug case's and a United States Senator and his family were assassinated. These assassinations drove the government to action.
After several conversations with the President of Mexico President Obama has ordered a task force formed to deal with the Mexican drug cartel's. The task force includes the DEA ( Drug Enforcement Agency ), BATFE ( Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) and SOCOM. They are tasked to search out and destroy drug cartel and illegal arms smuggling operations in Mexico. This operation has been approved by both the Mexican President and President Obama.
